The day 4 was the day for the team on tour to scale the slopes of the famous Somerset Estate. Situated in the Dimbula Valley on the Western slopes of the Central Hills of Sri Lanka at an altitude of 1402 – 1576 m above sea level, the Estate produces what is generally classified as Ceylon High Grown Dimbula. This is old tea country that has been producing exquisite teas famous for their distinctive flavour since the 1870s. The chefs spent the day trying to learn the tricks of the trade from tea pickers and, of course, tasting some of the finest teas in the world at source. In the afternoon they gathered to open a newly done up crèche. The crèche would provide care for the children of estate workers allowing their parents to earn a living without worrying about their children’s welfare.
